In "Asleep in the Storm," Pastor Joshua preaches Luke 8:22-25 alongside the witness of Paul Schneider, the German pastor who preached this same text weeks before his arrest and martyrdom in a Nazi camp, to show that the church has always faced the question of what to do when the storm comes and Christ seems asleep. The sermon turns on the opening line, "He got into a boat with his disciples," insisting that the presence of Jesus is what determines whether the boat is truly in danger, and that the storm's purpose is not to sink us but to reveal the character and trustworthiness of Christ. Jesus' question, "Where is your faith?", is read not as condemnation but as conviction: he questioned the disciples' fear, not their cry for help, and calls us to awaken Christ within us out of confidence, not panic. From believing God is good to knowing God is good, this is a word for anyone who feels sent into the deep with Jesus asleep in the stern.
